Culminating Project – Movie Poster and “Casting Call” Descriptions
Imagine a film production of the novel set in the year 2016. You are the director… where would you set the novel to make the themes and conflicts most poignant for today’s audiences? Which actors would you cast for each of the main characters?
For this project, create a movie poster for your film that displays some or all of your choices. You will submit a reflection questions as the written portion of this assignment, providing some of the rationale behind your choices. Additionally, you will create a “casting call” list of character descriptions that you would give out to those wanting to audition for your new movie. Finally, give what would be your casting choices for all major roles in the film including the following: Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, Dallas Winston, Darrel Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, Two-bit Mathews, Steve Randle, Cherry Valance, Bob Sheldon, Randy Adderson, and Tim Shepard. For extra credit, you can also provide casting call descriptions and casting choices for Sandy (Sodapop’s girlfriend), Marcia (Cherry’s friend), Paul Holden (Darry’s old Soc friend), Jerry Wood (teacher who drives Ponyboy to the hospital), Curly Shepard (Tim’s little brother), and Mr. Syme (Ponyboy’s English teacher).

In space no one can hear you scream. – Alien
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... – Jaws 2 A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... – Star Wars
